How To Calm A Racing Mind

For some reason I am having a difficult time concentrating on my personal tasks. The things I had to do for other people, and random favors that popped up today were completed quickly. As my list is dwindling down my focus is getting more and more scattered. As I was working on my Morning Pages I could not concentrate. After staring at the page for about 15 minutes I started to write. The issue I have is an assignment that I really don’t want to do. It is not difficult but my energy is not committed to it. I know when I finally complete the task, it will feel like 20 pounds off of my shoulders, my challenge right now is actually focusing and finishing this assignment.

Here are my five tips for calming a racing mind.
1. Stop: Bring a halt to everything you are doing and focus on your thoughts and breath. Take a few deep breaths and try to relax.
2. Breathe: As you take a deep breath release it through your mouth, also really pay attention to the way you are breathing, are they full deep breaths? If not slow down and count as you breathe. Stretching helps as well, if you can find a private area at work to do so please…. Stretch away!
3. Make a list: One list can be a task list while the other can be list of your feelings. Pay attention to the order of the list especially your task list, as you put your tasks in order without thinking about it see which one you choose to do first.
4. Ask yourself the right questions: Regarding your feelings
5. Start with baby steps: If you have five minutes give yourself 30 seconds to breathe and another 30 to try to calm your mind. Then think about the issue at hand and get started.
