Profile: Robyn Doyle of Charmed Public Relations

As a mother and entrepreneur, Robin Tolkan-Doyle wanted to help other people promote their company. In 2006 she started Charmed PR. “I (noticed) that I was always having friends ask me for advice about how to get their businesses noticed by the media. Since I was beginning to sound like a broken record, I thought I might try helping some of them with press releases. Then, product request started coming in and before I knew it, I had a real public relations agency on my hands,” she says.

No stranger to the business Doyle started her career in Magazines. “I went from an editorial assistant at the L.A. bureau of People Magazine to staff writer for BOP Magazine to a beauty editor for Jump Magazine.” It was at Jump where she started her own hair accessories company, Wrap Star, and ran it for five years. Her accessories were sold to stores such as Fred Segal and Henri Bendel. “I learned how to make the most of my company by pursuing public relations with the media and got my products in publications such as InStyle, Glamour and Lucky.” Between all of her experience working with publicists as a magazine editor and freelance writer as well as promoting her own companies, she developed a strong understanding of the business.

Robin loves the excitement and unpredictability of PR. Just this week she received a call from a fashion editor for a national women’s magazine who wanted to feature a Unique Vintage, one of her clients, dress similar to Michelle Obama’s Inaugural gown for a morning show segment. “You can’t help getting caught up in all of it…..it’s exciting,” she says.

Raw Food 101

If you are looking to improve your health, look great and have a tremendous amount of energy. I strongly encourage trying raw foods. I have been 50-60% raw for about 6 months now. Due to my lifestyle 100% raw would be difficult. There are modifications. Do what works for you. I have adapted to the method that Natalia Rose uses in her book The Raw Food Detox Diet. (http://www.detoxtheworld.com/).

Recently, I was asked to be the wellness expert for Detroit Fashion Pages. A publication based in the Detroit area. I will have articles published every Monday. Check out my article on raw foods.

The Power of Parsley

Usually seen as decoration on your plate, parsley one herb that is extremely underrated. Before you throw away that piece of parsley that makes your meal look oh so colorful consider the health benefits of this unassuming wonder herb.

Eating parsley can help cleanse the blood, prevent bad breath, treat ear infections and it is known to have cancer fighting agents. The herb is also packed with vitamin C, A, K and Iron. Many individuals boil fresh parsley to make tea in order to reduce water retention.

There are many ways to consume parsley. Tabouli salad is primarily made of parsley, onions and tomatoes (other ingredients vary). Adding parsley to soup, vegetables, stew and salad are other wonderful ways to eat parsley.

Quinoa: Protein Power Without the Meat

As an individual who is down to just eating fish (as flesh), it is truly important to find ways to get protein along with amino acids in my diet. Quinoa (pronounced Keen-wah) is a power food that not only has protein with all 8 essential amino acids, it is packed with magnesium, calcium, vitamin C, B and E.

This grain is dated back to 3,000 B.C. in areas of South American Andes. Now found prominently in Chile and Peru, this power grain is not as popular in the United States although, it can be found in many health food stores.

Quinoa can be prepared and included in many different ways. It can be boiled and eaten as a morning cereal, included in dishes like tabouli, or it can be added in salad or soup.
